Herringbone hardwood floors in Burnsville

Here in the greater Burnsville, MN area, hardwood flooring is one of the most popular choices among homeowners. Not only is hardwood incredibly durable and long lasting, it gives you a choice between a variety of design options, including how the planks are laid. The pattern you choose can take even the simplest of designs to the next level.

At Floor Coverings International Dakota County, our team is dedicated to helping home and business owners alike find the perfect flooring for their needs. Today, we’re here to discuss three of our favorite hardwood flooring patterns to help you find the right design for your home.

Straight Pattern

When most people think of hardwood flooring, they typically envision a floor with planks laid in a straight pattern. It’s the most common pattern for hardwood floors and it’s the simplest to install. However, this simple pattern doesn’t mean you can’t still get creative. Choosing a plank size that is wider or longer than a standard plank can significantly enhance the design of your floor.

Random Pattern

As opposed to the straight pattern, in which planks of equal widths and lengths are installed parallel to one another, the random pattern uses planks of different lengths and widths. Although the planks are still parallel, the alternating sizes allow you to create floors with a more rustic design. When combined with planks that are distressed or hand-scraped, it’s a great way to get the look of reclaimed hardwood without the hassle of finding repurposed wood.

Sophisticated Herringbone

Although the herringbone pattern has come and gone throughout the ages, it’s hard to deny that today it’s a trend that’s here to stay. This pattern uses planks of equal size laid in a zigzag-like manner. Although it can be a trickier installation job, it’s a great way to take an ordinary hardwood species and create a luxurious design. Just be sure to find skilled installers who are familiar with alternative wood patterns to ensure proper installation. The herringbone pattern is also a great option to elevate the design of non-hardwood materials such as subway tile or luxury vinyl plank flooring!
