At Floor Coverings International Dakota County, we love helping our customers keep up with the latest trends and voices in Interior Design. This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Nicole White Quinn, CEO and Principal Designer at Nicole White Designs Interiors and blogger at LiveLaughDecorate. Read on to learn her thoughts on color and on following your dreams!
1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a wife and mom to an awesome 4 year-old named Xavier. I’m Jamaican-born and a former journalist who turned a passion for interior design into a thriving business. And oh, I’m a serious foodie and wine lover.
2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I started a blog to merge my two passions – writing and design. It was the perfect outlet to showcase those two loves. It was also a place to explain the behind the scenes details of the design process. And it’s been a great place to meet other talented designers and design lovers, many of whom have become great friends over the years.
3. How would you describe your interior design and décor style?
I have a very contemporary aesthetic typically mixed with a bold use of color. Let’s just say I’ve never met a color I couldn’t design a space around.
4. Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration all around me. Music helps to clear my thoughts, so I can think through the creative process. In Xavier’s colorful pieces of art, trade magazines, wallpaper, fabric, photography, old architecture. Even in the simplest of things like a flower, a leaf or the pattern on a rug.
5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
We completed this project for a friend turned client last year, and it remains a favorite. She is an avid book lover and traveler and someone whose personality we could easily showcase when we worked on her design. We shopped sparingly for any art or accessories for her because she had such a treasure trove to choose from. That’s an awesome gift for any designer to work with.
6. Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Don’t be afraid to follow your passion, your dream. It can be scary of course, but you’ll never know how well you can do unless you try. I’ve lived by this motto my entire life and it continues to ring true: “A life lived in fear, is a life half lived.” Go live fearlessly.
