Before You Buy Guide

Laminate flooring has some unique properties compared to other materials. Here are three key features you should review with a design associate before you choose your style.

Thickness & Width. Laminate can vary in thickness as well as width. This can affect how well it is at preventing dents in the flooring, noise reduction, and the softness under your feet.

Abrasion Criteria (AC) Rating. The AC Rating is a scale of wear resistance that goes from AC 1 (worst) to AC 5 (best).

Homes typically have a rating of AC 3 or AC 4, while businesses may want to consider laminate styles with an AC 5 rating withstand even the largest of daily foot traffic.

Texture. To better simulate real wood, there are three different texture method available. They are embossed/embossed in register (EIR), hand scraped, and high gloss.

Installation Technique

Old style laminate flooring required an adhesive to keep it together, but with advancements in technology, you can now do a floating or click lock installation method.

This method is great for those looking for a quick and cost-effective install. You can also install above any existing flooring or subflooring. The drawback to this method is that it is not great at reducing noise unless other padding is put in place.
